Speedwatch
We have several active Speedwatch groups across the Parish, all run by volunteers.
Our goal, quite simply, is to reduce the volume of speeding drivers on our roads where possible, raise awareness and encourage drivers (visitors to the Parish and local residents) to slow down and make our roads safer for everyone. We always need extra help for our sessions, so please read below for further details.
How it works.
- A session is usually between 30 and 60 minutes
- A team of three is required to manage each session
- The data is submitted via the online portal for immediate action by the Police

What Happens with the Data
- The captured data is submitted to communityspeedwatch.org
- DVLA pre-checks the logged registration numbers for authenticity, before passing everything onto the Police for further processing
- Any registered keeper caught over the speed limit will be sent an ‘speed education letter’ by Thames Valley Police
- If the same registered keeper is caught again, they will receive ‘a strong worded’ letter by Thames Valley Police
- If the same registered keeper is caught for a third time, they receive a visit from Thames Valley Police
Results
There have been over 40 active sessions in 2024 and 14 of those car drivers have been multiple speeding offenders.
We know the presence of Speedwatch volunteers acts as a visible deterrent to excessive speed on the day, but there is still more to do. Can you spare some time please to help?
How You Can Get Involved
Speedwatch relies on the dedication of local volunteers, by joining, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our roads safer. Training and equipment are provided, and you’ll be part of a friendly and experienced team, working towards a safer community.
Training takes 30 minutes with an online course, the rest you will learn during a live session.
